Shepparton maestros invited to play at La Trobe

La Trobe University put on a three day piano show to recognise local piano playing talent - putting us in the music mood the upcoming Award

Goulburn Valley musicians and budding maestros have been invited to help La Trobe University support the Australian National Piano Awards.

To celebrate the official launch of the Australian National Piano Awards on Tuesday 19 August, La Trobe has invited music teachers, community members and talented secondary school students to play the University piano in the front foyer between 11am and 1.30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The soirees will feature renditions of a range of classics from Tchaikovsky to Rachmaninoff.

Head of Shepparton Campus Sue Nalder said the University was proud to play a part in the upcoming piano competition.

‘Shepparton Campus is pleased to be hosting the Australian National Piano Award lunchtime soirees this week in preparation for the finals to be held from 8 to 13 September,’ Ms Nalder said.

‘This is a great opportunity for students and community members to use our baby grand piano to entertain the public.  La Trobe is pleased to be able to nurture the Shepparton arts community through this wonderful initiative.’

The Australian National Piano Awards is a biennial event that showcases Australia’s best young pianists and offers a total prize pool of $65,000.

Judy Longley, member of the Australian National Piano Award Board, said she was pleased to have La Trobe’s support.

‘La Trobe University is a new supporter, to come on board for this year’s competition,’ Mrs Longley said.
