Kane Chang began his piano studies in China with Liu Yang before relocating to Melbourne, where he studied with Glenn Riddle. In 2016, he gave his concerto debut performing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the New Goldberg Orchestra.

Kane completed his Bachelor of Music with Honours at the University of Melbourne in 2020 before joining the Australian National Academy of Music, where he studied with Timothy Young. During his time at the Australian National Academy of Music, he participated in the ANAM Set Festival and premiered Fragility and Sonorousness, composed by Bruce Crossman.

In 2022, Kane received the Frances Hall Scholarship to study at the Manhattan School of Music with Alexandre Moutouzkine. He is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts student at the University of Washington in Seattle, studying with Craig Sheppard. He was a semi-finalist in the 2022 Seattle International Piano Competition and received First Prize at the University of Washington Concerto Competition in 2026, performing Schumann's Piano Concerto with the Harmonia Symphony Orchestra.

Across China, Australia and the United States, Kane has performed at venues including the Melbourne Recital Centre, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, New York Lincoln Center and Meany Theater in Seattle.
