oy Chen completed her Bachelor of Music (Performance) with Honours at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under Dr Paul Rickard-Ford, where she participated in the Rising Stars program and received the Licentiate of Music, Australia (LMusA) diploma with Distinction in 2016. During her studies, she received the Myron Kantor Bequest Scholarship, the Henderson Traveller Scholarship and the George Henderson Scholarship. She is currently completing a Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory of Music under Meng-Chieh Liu, having previously completed a Master of Music with Academic Honors under Pavel Nersessian and Meng-Chieh Liu.
Joy has received prizes at competitions across Australia, Asia and Europe. Her accolades include First Prize at the 2019 Golden Classical Music Awards International Piano Competition, for which she was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, Second Prize at the 2022 Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition and a Special Prize for best performance of 20th century music at the 2021 International Balys Dvarionas Competition. She also received the 2020 Theme & Variations Foundation Award.
Having participated in festival programs and masterclasses with leading artists including Arie Vardi, Boris Berman, Yoheved Kaplinsky and Dénes Várjon, Joy has developed her artistry across a broad range of international programs. These include the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar Masterclasses, the XI International Summer Piano Academy Disentis and the PianoTexas International Festival and Academy.
